Football is in the air...
By Vince Palko
As September approaches the smell of football is in the air.
So it’s only appropriate to chat ‘bout the best
sport ever created on this late August day.
Was a betting man (If I), my money would be on the
Eagles to win the Superbowl this year. Yup, you heard
it correctly– mark it down, save this email. Philly is going
to the BIG DANCE (even though I’m a lifetime Browns fan).
And here’s the reason.
Letting my fingers dance across my remote
awhile back, I was drawn to a documentary highlighting
Donovan McNabb, the NFL quarterback for the Eagles of Philly.
What jumped out about Donovan was NOT his
dedication, drive, and work ethic. Those features
were on par with most high performing athletes.
There was ONE differentiating factor Donavan possesses.
It’s a talent not given to him by his Creator.
I heard him talk about a particular playoff game vs.
Pittsburgh back in 2001. The Eagles lost and after the
game he did something most people wouldn't have the guts to do.
While the rest of his teammates put their tails between
their legs and sulked back to the locker room, McNabb
stood on the field to listen and watch everything; the fans,
the cheers, the smell– everything.
Why did he do this?
His answer was, “I wanted to visualize; see, hear, smell
and feel everything going on. I wanted to hear the crowd roar
as trophies were handed out and envision it was me they were
cheering for. I wanted to see the team slapping hands and hugging
each other.”
In other words he wanted to stir his emotions and motivate
him to train harder and lead the team more effectively the following year.
The key word above is– “visualize.” Your neurological
system does not know the difference between what is
imagined and what is real. This is exactly what McNabb
wanted to experience to get the “feeling” right.
The beautiful thing about all this is you don’t have to be a
pro athlete to make visualization work for you. It’s a talent
anyone can acquire.
Work visualization into your daily routine, and it will
magnetically attract whatever you’re seeking into your
life. You want the car of your dreams, go test drive it. Smell
and touch the interior of your future ride. You want to be in
the house of your dreams, go through some parade homes and
EXPERIENCE what it means to have all the amenities of that house.
You want the same success as someone else, then go learn
everything you can about how that person achieved it.

Visually see your future HOT bod in YOUR HEAD
(before you ever get there) so you get a daily visual “experience”.
That way, the rest of your HOT BODY follows along like railroad
cars on a choo, choo to the correct destination.
This will take the guesswork out of visualizing if it feels foreign or
uncomfortable to you.
Eagles all the way in ‘06.

Pps. Did you know McNabb was booed on draft day?
I never saw someone handle adversity with more integrity
and grace. He held up his new jersey and smiled, uneffected. Wowsers!
Yet, another great lesson about success from a wonderful leader and athlete.
