Float away ghosts from the past

By Vince Palko

Many of you know I raced my first triathlon a few weeks back.

That sucker continues to pay post race dividends.

I'm not talking 'bout the pride or joy from completing it. That's a given, but what I want to dive into today has do with experiences of the past that need to be shaken.

If thoughts keep me from being "present in the moment" I rid myself of them. This is ideally the state to be in for peace of mind purposes.

Most people have challenging limiting beliefs or past events that act
as obstacles in the path of their success.

Well, before triathlon race I went to the lake where I would do
my mile swim portion of the event. I looked down to the other side of Olander lake and was amazed at how far it was!

Fade to black and transition to a breakfast meeting I had with
a psychiatrist friend who I worked with for several years now.
(I will tie all together in a bit).

He's has 25 years worth experience helping recovering addicts. He's about
to launch a new product based on all this research as a home study
course for people who want an alternative to groups like AA. Several years back I helped him create a visual to understand the complex inter-workings of the brain and make it stupid simple for the average "Joe".

I learned tons working with him.

Anyway, we discussed the different parts of the brain and how they impact our
daily decision making process. His knowledge poured out like a never ending stream. Like a sponge I absorbed every word because I luuuv learning about human development and how the brain works.

What was most interesting was the ONE factor that separates us from the
animals: our ability to choose and direct our thoughts rather than acting on "animal" instinct.

If we have a craving for ice cream we can either go to the fridge and
scoop a big bowl or we can choose to forego it for a handful of almonds.
There is a split second where we can delay our animal instinct impulse and CHOOSE how we direct our decision.

We can do the same with the thoughts and feelings that hold us back.

I shared with him what I have been doing with negative hang-ups from
the past or limiting beliefs and how I'm ridding myself of them.

"I box 'em up put them on a little motor boat and set the boat's
course for the other side of Olander lake." I explained. (see visual at top)

Which if you remember is a looong distance in my mind
and in real life. For me, it works like a charm.

Now, is this the only way to put to bed the limiting ghosts in your head? Hardly.

Matt has taught us in his Maximum Success group to turn off the
computer screen. You cut off the supply line of energy to the thought.
Dr. Maltz talks about discarding the "mental" trash as you take the garbage
out to the curb each week.

The key is to find something that resonates with you. If you live in a big city go outside and look down the city block, better yet, look up at
a skyscraper and imagine sending your limiting thoughts up the side
of the building until they are out of sight.

That way you can march straight down the path to achievement and
success with no monkeys on your back.

Conceive, believe, achieve!
