How to Insire Yourself to Stay on Trakx
Here's a question that hits home with many people.
Let's take a look see - shall we.
Dear Vince,
Being a collegiate athlete like yourself, I have had and run across many
great coaches and mentors, but nothing stimulated me to stay in shape
like some good ol' fashion accountability. Thats the one thing I
REALLY miss from my playing (basketball, track, xcountry) days ... the
great individuals I was blessed to have placed in my path, forged
friendships, the sense of team family and the responsibility that came
along with wanting to do your best for your teammates. Do you battle
with this? I find it harder to stay focused without some type of
accountability.

Oh yes, accountability. I like to use a simple phrase “ac-count on yur-self”
The only time I battle with it is when I'm not
aware of my progress driving towards my goal.
Let me explain.
The first example of this started back with I was wet
behind the ears freshman at BGSU.
Being in a new setting surrounded by fine athletes
everything seemed overwhelming.
Though I felt nevous at first, I knew I would succeed and
made a goal of starting at linebacker as soon
as the coaches would give me a shot.
I wanted to keep track of my progress
during those challenging first days of summer damp too.
I thought it would be cool to look back on one day.
So for the first 30 days of summer camp I kept a log of my progress.
This was not a mandatory thing
players were asked to do.
Each night after practice and before lights out, I'd recap what I did
to improve my skills that day.
I'd write if I felt I improved or not.
I wrote about the people I faced in practice.
I wrote about the challenges: how I busted my nose up after facing a
one senior stud tight-end.
I wrote about my personal victories: making unbelievable
tackles on veteran tailbacks, pass breaks ups and so on.
This was an excellent way for me to keep a running score that
eventually advanced me past other senior linebackers to win a
starting position my Red-shirt freshman year.
To this day, if I have a goal I'm serious about attaining- I use this
tracking method.
Mind you, I don't need anyone to motivate me like a coach
or other players (though that was awesome to have at the time) –
I motivate myself. You get to a point where you do it cause you know nothing
else and it becomes a part of your daily living.
Ray, sounds like you have the background you just need a tool to
that instantly holds you to “count on yourself.”
