Can Art Make Your Baby Smart
Yesterday, we had an early holiday party.
My wife and I ate a Thanksgiving meal with our daughter
Sophia and her pre-school class.
Before the meal, we and the other parents watched as the
kiddies sang songs and expressed thanks to their parents and friends.
Got a bit choked up that my first born is growing up fast. I'm sure
it'll go even quicker over the next few years.
Also, many of you know my wife is pregnant and we found out what we're having.
Yes, I know many people
have their opinions about whether to find out OR not with babies in the belly.
We didn't find out on our first but on the second did. This time around
my wife and I were super excited because this will be our last.
My thought was let's cut to the chase and find out what we are having ASAP.
This way, it'll give me plenty of time to paint either a
girlie-girl mural on the wall versus a
a dragon castle mural for a boy.
A little known fact...
I was talking to a neurosurgeon friend who let me in
on a secret way to make a child smart early on in their
developent. He shared with me a study that was
done that he learned in school.
There was a study done of baby monkeys
placed into a room with stripes on the walls.
They lived in their rooms for an extended period of time.
When the researchers studied their brains,
they saw striated patterns had
developed. In other words, the visual element these monkeys
focused on actually appeared on their brains.
This was in comparison to
the control group in a room of blank walls- with no pattern on their brain tissue.
As crazy as this sounds, its true.
My friend went on to say murals and visual imagery in bedrooms
open the pathways of a child's mind.
The more interesting and colorful you can makethe walls,
the better for brain development. Their little sponges (brains)
are developing and always processing
new information - no matter where they are.
So it's important where your child spends most of his/her time to make that
a super visual environment. The bedroom is this place.
Inter-resting stuhff~!
Anywhoooo, I got off track a bit.
We're having another girl. Yep four girls in the house all at once.
Holy beejeesers!
They'll have daddy boxed in on all sides.
Now, let me take a page out of my daughters
preschool class to say that I'm thankful
for my family and my friends.
I include you in this list. It gives me great pleasure to
share these emails with you,
and I get a kick out of hearing from you and
all your successes.
Keep them coming!
Conceive, believe, achieve,
